Shifu Loretta M. Wollering, MS

Sf. Loretta Wollering is the author of: “Anatomy of Fitness: Tai Chi” (Hinkler Books, 2014). It is available in Barnes & Noble bookstores, Amazon, and other bookstores. It is available in several languages and sold in various places across the globe.

Beginning in 1990, Shifu Loretta Wollering served an 8-year apprenticeship with the late Tai Chi Grandmaster Jou Tsung Hwa (see “Our Lineage” page), author of the best selling The Dao of Taijiquan. She was the content editor of this book.

As his apprentice, she underwent thousands of hours of intensive private training in classical tai chi (taijiquan). She also traveled with him internationally, as assistant instructor of his workshops and seminars.

Throughout the 1990’s, Wollering lived at his 103-acre tai chi retreat center, the Tai Chi Farm, while attending college and graduate school. During this same period, she served as Manager, and then Operations Director of the annual Zhang San Feng Festival -one of the largest tai chi and internal arts gatherings in the country that drew hundreds of people worldwide. She continues to direct this convention, now titled: “The Tai Chi Gala.”

After Jou Tsung Hwa’s death in 1998, she continued to run his school as Chief Instructor until the sale of the property in 2000. She then helped to peacefully close Tai Chi Farm as it was sold by his family.

Presently, Shifu Loretta serves as the head instructor of Internal Gardens School of Tai Chi, NJ. She brings her expertise honed by years of continuous training with one of the top tai chi masters of our time. She lectures on tai chi to various groups, organizations, conferences and other venues including private “one-on-one” instruction.

Wollering developed specialized tai chi programs for organizations such as the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and has been published in several magazines. She believes in continuously refining her skills by training with select instructors of the top talent in the world of internal martial arts. While she focuses mostly on the health, energetic and spiritual facets of tai chi, she also has experience in full-contact fighting and martial arts applications of tai chi chuan (taijiquan).

In 2007 Shifu Loretta Wollering was inducted into the USA Martial Arts Hall of Fame for her contributions to tai chi and the ┬áChinese internal martial arts. In 2008 she won the prestigious “Community Leadership Award” from the “President’s Council on Physical Fitness” (Washington, DC).

She was a featured author in the book, Champions: Knockout Strategies For Health, Wealth and Success From Today’s Leading Experts (Celebrity Press, 2012), writing on a Taoist approach to the success mindset. She instructs tai chi on the DVD, Tai Chi: Your Wellness Solution is Here, which is available on and catalogs.
